Students are only allowed to take ONE course in summer academy. Students who fail a class and wish to retake the class will be charged $75 for ACPS students and $175 for non-ACPS students.  Students who would like to take a NEW class other than Econ and Personal Finance will be charged $125 for ACPS students and $175 for non-ACPS students. Payment in full is due by the first day of the summer academy. Once payment is received, students will be given access to their course.

Students who are taking a course that requires a SOL test will have to take the SOL test during the last week of the summer academy, July 10 - 13.

Economics and Personal Finance (new course):

EPF courses will be offered free of charge.  Students will complete most of their course virtually, but must attend on June 14 & 15 and again on June 28 & 29 for the W!SE test.  If the student is unsuccessful on the W!SE test, they will retest on July 12 & 13.  If a student is not progressing in the coursework, they will be required to come into the building to complete the coursework.  No transportation will be available for students taking EPF.

SOL Remediation and Retesting

Amherst County High School will be providing a free remediation program for students who were not successful on their recent EOC Algebra 1, Earth Science or World History 1 SOL test. Students will receive an invitation in June to register for this program based on their SOL score and their grade in the class.   If a student did not pass the associated class, they will not be allowed to retest.

The Project Graduation/SOL Remediation Program will be a one week program, July 31 - August 4, from 8:30 AM – Noon at Amherst County High School.  Students will receive remediation for one SOL and then retake the SOL test on Friday, August 4.  If a student needs to retest two subjects, we will remediate one during the August session and the other(s) when we return to school, prior to the September deadline.

Students who fail the WH1 SOL test will automatically be placed in the World Geography class to give them another opportunity to obtain their required history verified credit for graduation.

Students who fail the Algebra 1 SOL test are recommended to take the Algebra, Functions and Data Analysis (AFDA) course to build up their Algebra skills and retake the Algebra 1 SOL test.

At the high school level, ALL students are required to take the Biology SOL test and a math SOL test.  These will be taken when they complete the associated Biology or math course at the high school.
