Language Arts Course Syllabus 2021-2022

Mrs. Ragland

Course Goals: Students will exhibit growth as readers.

Class Requirements: Every child will be expected to demonstrate respect for others. Students should come to class prepared and make a diligent effort to complete assignments.

Supplies: pencil/pen, highlighter. 1 ½ binder

Grading

*Mastery of Content= 60% (tests, quizzes)

*Progress= 40% (classwork, warm-ups)

Class Routine: Students will begin each class with a warm-up activity/WOD. Our weekly focus will be silent reading, fluency, reading skills lessons, grammar, writing and note-taking. Tests will be announced one week in advance. Although homework will not be given every night, students are encouraged to read 20-30 minutes every night, with the emphasis being on reading something they enjoy. Students are encouraged to read a variety of literature. We will be studying Fiction, Nonfiction, Informational Text, and Poetry this year.

Absences and Make-up Work: Students are to report to their teacher on the first day’s return from an absence. Content will be virtually uploaded to Virtual Virginia daily. Students can use that platform to get any missed work or instruction. If there is any trouble using Canvas/Virtual Virginia, the student can get a paper copy from their teacher when they return.  Please remember that work not completed due to an absence must be finished and turned in to the teacher by the fifth day after an absence.
