Monelison Middle School is the larger of two middle schools in Amherst County, Virginia. Located just outside the Lynchburg city limits and one block off U.S. 29 Business, Monelison draws a diverse mix of urban and rural students from across the southern end of the county.
Fully accredited, Monelison combines academic rigor with a positive and supportive climate. With a strong commitment to both excellence and equity, the school strives to retain and uplift its exurban student population by offering enriching experiences and a robust learning environment.
Monelison is more than a school—it’s a social and geographic anchor for the community. The school serves as:
-
A gathering space for civic, academic, and athletic events
-
A polling location for local and state elections
-
A designated emergency shelter, as it was following the April 2018 tornado that impacted the nearby Elon community
